Requirements for Online Executive Master of Science in Automotive Supply Chain Management

The online Executive Master of Science in Automotive Supply Chain Management (EMS-SCM) program modality conforms to the standards set by the field of supply chain management and the major accrediting body for business education, AACSB International, for a master's degree in a specialized field.

The online EMS-SCM curriculum will:

Equip qualified individuals for careers in mid- to senior-level supply chain management positions in the automotive industry in related functions of supply chain management including procurement, logistics, and manufacturing operations.
Help established supply chain professionals advance in the workplace, build on and update their skills and knowledge, or change career specialization within the broader field of supply chain management.
Develop students' professional competence in the increasingly technical field of supply chain decision-making.

Admission requirements

Admission to the online EMS-SCM program modality is contingent upon admission to the Wayne State University Graduate School. Courses for this modality are taught exclusively online. Please note: The admission application's academic programs list is alphabetical; you'll find this degree listed as Automotive Supply Chain Management (online).

In addition to Wayne State's graduate school admission criteria, applicants to the online EMS-SCM program modality must meet the following requirements:

Baccalaureate degree or equivalent from a regionally or nationally accredited institution. If the applicant's undergraduate degree is in a non-business discipline, the applicant must complete foundation courses determined by the selection committee.
Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75, with a 3.0 major GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Professional resume (should include start and end dates for each position held).

The committee will base its recommendation for admissions on the composite characteristics of the applicant.

Curriculum requirements*

International experience

Students are required to have an international experience as part of the program. This can be fulfilled by either taking GSC 7100 Study Abroad or by writing a paper on an international experience or topic as part of GSC 7950 Auto Industry SCM Capstone course.

Curriculum

All courses listed below are three credits each unless otherwise noted.

Core courses: 27 credits

The core courses form the backbone of the EMS-SCM program, providing the critical skills needed for various specialties within the broader field.

Elective courses: 3 credits

In addition to taking the core curriculum, students must choose one elective:

Directed study elective (1 credit, required)

GSC 7995: Directed Study in Global Supply Chain Management (1 credit). This course is designed to provide students with training programs and conferences/webinars related to the automotive industry. Students are required to participate in the following and provide documentation of participation:
- Completion of 5 Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) online training modules related to quality, sustainability, supply chain management, or other relevant topics approved by the course instructor.
- Participation in 2 conferences (minimum of 4 hours attendance) or 4 hours of webinars on broad supply chain management topics produced by AIAG or other organizations approved by the course instructor.

Graduation requirements

The online EMS-SCM is a 31-credit degree program modality that full-time students can complete in three semesters. A part-time student can complete the program in five semesters by taking six credit hours (two courses) per semester. Students enrolled in the program must complete the program within six years of their start date.

Up to six transfer credits for previous equivalent graduate coursework can be applied to the degree if those credits have not been counted towards a degree and are equivalent substitutes. Students transferring to the program from the Ilitch School's M.B.A. with a concentration in global supply chain management may transfer unlimited Wayne State graduate credits in global supply chain management.

A minimum grade point average of 3.00 is required to obtain the EMS-SCM degree. A maximum of two courses in which a C has been received may be used to meet graduation requirements, provided this is offset by sufficient A grades to maintain the required 3.00 average.

*Students enrolled in this online modality must register for courses listed in the Schedule of Classes with the following instructional methods: Online--No Scheduled Meetings or Online--Scheduled Meetings.

All students who are eligible to enroll in a fully online program will be assessed regular Michigan resident tuition rates. International students residing outside of the United States can enroll in and complete online programs, and these students would qualify regular Michigan resident tuition rates.
